STEP has renovated four floors of the Saint Petersburg Hotel which were damaged by fire in 1991.

Saint Petersburg Hotel is located in the heart of Saint Petersburg, at Pirogovskaya embankment 5/2. The work was performed at the request of Desima Saint Petersburg LLC. The total area of the renovation covered 9.6 thousand square meters.

According to project leader Nikolai Solovev, STEP renovated the rooms (248 in total), halls and the hotel's service premises from the 6th to 9th floors. "The renovated rooms will have high noise insulation and be equipped with state-of-the-art fire-fighting equipment, power supply and lighting systems. The whole range of fit-out works were performed in the premises. After renovation, in addition to the main rooms, the hotel also acquired suites", he noted.

In 1991, the largest fire in the history of the city started in the Saint Petersburg Hotel. The fire affected the upper floors of the hotel. It was not until 20 years later, in 2012, that the hotel owner decided to renovate the fire-damaged rooms. STEP was chosen as the general contractor.

This is not the first time that STEP has renovated a hotel. The company upgraded the 191-room Azimut Hotel on Lermontovsky Prospekt. According to Natalya Kezua, director of STEP's hotel construction department, the renovation of Soviet-era hotels has great potential. "The state of Russian hotels has long failed to meet modern standards of comfort and safety. The owners of such facilities are keen to upgrade their rooms, as, owing to the development of domestic tourism and the upcoming football World Cup in 2018, many Russian cities require high-quality hotel infrastructure.", she said.
